Agricultural Input Distribution in Logar Province, Afghanistan

The Rural Rehabilitation Association for Afghanistan (RRAA), in partnership with Cordaid, marked a significant milestone with the distribution of certified wheat seeds, urea, and DAP fertilizer, aimed at strengthening local agriculture and enhancing food security in Logar Province.

The event brought together a wide range of participants, including the Director of Agriculture (DAIL), representatives from the Provincial Governor’s Office, senior staff from RRAA and Cordaid, as well as community leaders and local farmers, the primary beneficiaries of the initiative.

Netherlands Postcode Lottery (NPL) Project Objectives:

  • Immediate Food Security: Cash-for-work activities enable farmers to rehabilitate agricultural land, generate income, support livelihoods, promote improved cultivation practices, and stabilize food supplies.
  • Agricultural Support and Training: Farmers receive essential agricultural inputs, including certified wheat seeds and fertilizers, along with comprehensive practical and theoretical training to enhance productivity.
  • Empowerment of Vulnerable Women: Targeting women-headed households, this component provides poultry farming packages and training to improve food production and strengthen economic independence.

Mr. Mohammad Kabir Yaqubi, RRAA Provincial Manager, presented an overview of the project, noting that 2,500 farmers and vulnerable households have already benefited from cash-for-work activities. He further explained that 3,000 households are supported through agricultural input distribution (1,500 assisted in 2023, with an additional 1,500 planned for the last quarter of 2024).

Representing the Provincial Governor’s Office, Mr. Mulawi Rahmatullah stressed the importance of transparent beneficiary selection to ensure assistance reaches the most vulnerable populations, while prioritizing capable farmers who can effectively utilize the provided resources.

Key Achievements:

  • 2,500 farmers and vulnerable households supported through community-based cash-for-work activities.
  • 815 vulnerable women received poultry farming support.
  • 3,000 households benefiting from essential agricultural inputs.
